How to hyperlink a Keynote planner for GoodNotes

Why Keynote becomes slow

Keynote can link a shape to another slide, and that is how a lot of planner shops still work. It is also why a yearly file takes days. Each tab is a separate click, each calendar cell is another click, and a single change to the grid means doing it again. The slides themselves are not the problem. The repetition is.

Folory does not replace Keynote. You keep the master slides, the fonts, and the layout. You export a short PDF of the templates and mark the clickable areas once. The dated pages are generated afterward, with ordinary PDF link annotations.

Set the slide size before you decorate it

Pick the page size in Keynote first. US Letter and A4 are the common Etsy sizes. A square or a tall digital size is fine too, as long as every template slide uses it. Folory keeps each template’s own page size, so mixed sizes in one upload become mixed sizes in the export.

Export with File, Export To, PDF. Include every template slide and leave out the extra drafts. Hyperlinks you already made inside Keynote are not copied. Folory embeds the page artwork and writes new links, which avoids a stack of old slide links pointing at the wrong place after the pages are duplicated.

What GoodNotes actually opens

GoodNotes, Notability, Noteshelf, and Xodo follow standard link annotations whose action is GoTo and whose destination is a page in the same file. Folory writes that form, with Fit as the destination, and also sets the Dest entry for readers that look there first. The border is invisible unless you turn on proof outlines for a test export.

Named actions such as “next page” are a different kind of link, and some tablet apps ignore them. The checker calls those out. Internal page links are the ones to rely on when you are selling a planner.

After import, tap with a finger rather than the pencil if a stroke is drawing instead of following the link. That is a GoodNotes setting, not a broken PDF. If a tap does nothing, the rectangle is probably sitting on the art next to the button instead of on it. Nudge the hotspot in Folory and export again. Projects stay in this browser, so next year’s file starts from the same rectangles.

A practical first file

Start with January only. Tag the slides, draw the month grid and the tabs, stamp the month name, and export. You should be able to open January 15 from the grid, go back to the month, and jump home. When that works, widen the range to the full year on Pro.

Week arrows do not wrap past the first or last week in the file. If your Keynote design has a previous-week tab on the first week of January, that tab will have no link, which is what you want. The checker lists pages that have no outgoing links so a completely forgotten template is obvious before you upload the listing.
